Bonjour mes amis!
Today is the first day of the reshuffle (as I try and turn the fun little side-project into a real thing) and I can’t lie, I’m nervous about it - what if it’s a total flop?! What if everyone hates me now.. you know all the classic human fears when trying something new. But we’re doing it. Just know that any and all support means the world to me. It’s truly appreciated.
💎 The new premium experience is awesome and amazing and the best way to learn French since sliced bread (obviously). And great new features and improvements will constantly be coming down the pipe!
🌱 Free readers will still get two fresh dialogues a week. We see you, we love you free readers!
Today is launch day so I kinda have to plug it! If you just want me to shut-up and send you basic dialogues… there won’t be so much promotion next week. Pinky promise.
*Note to Brits 🇬🇧 Substack’s currency conversion was making it £7/month but I’ve worked hard to fix this and it should now be £6/month. 🙌🏼
We can’t let ourselves get too distracted though because today is also about food! Nothing should really be overshadowing a dialogue about food now should it?
An arena in which the French really like to think they’re the best (and I have to agree). I’m sure your mouth will be watering by the end of today’s dialogue.. I know mine was.
Gros Bisous

Translation
J: Z, what's your favourite food?
Z: Can pastries or sweets count as an answer?
J: Sure, why not? So, what's your choice?
Z: Where do I start? Baguettes, croissants, macaroons. I'm a real foodie! But an apple tart with crème fraîche is my guilty pleasure. What's your favourite food, J?
J: I'm a big fan of fruit. I love figs, blueberries and mangoes. I also love traditional dishes, coq au vin, croque-monsieur.... oh but I love baguette, you can't get more French than that!
Z: You have to buy them fresh from a local baker, of course. But there's something I have to tell you...
J: What's that? Don't tell me you're allergic to baguettes?
Z: No, nothing so dramatic, but I'm allergic to onions. So whenever I order coq au vin, I always have to say "No onions". "It's not your onions, it's mine.
J: Oh, my God! The poor waiter, but it's such a bad joke, hahaha. Tell me you're not really saying that...
✪ Notes
pourquoi pas ?✨ = essayons ! = why not? (ie. let’s do it!). I have French friends and once I started noticing I realised this is their response to pretty much anything you ask of them! Would you like a croissant / to go for a walk / to go out for dinner / a beer? “Pourquoi pas ?”. A universal answer. · · · ·
