I offered to help my nephew with his homework this week and was informed, by an eight-year-old, that my method was "not the one the teacher wants" — so I sat there being corrected on subtraction by a child with a glitter pen. Which is exactly today's argument: Romane and Bastien are pulling at whether school feeds the imagination or quietly files it down. One wants fewer grades, the other wants the basics first. Read it, then decide which of them you'd hire as a teacher.
J'ai proposé d'aider mon neveu pour ses devoirs cette semaine et un enfant de huit ans m'a expliqué que ma méthode n'était "pas celle que la maîtresse veut" — me voilà corrigée en soustraction par un gamin avec un stylo à paillettes.
