Everyone is trying to find their feet again this time of January. So I’ll be trying some new things and zeroing in on just what my readers need and want.

Guillaume : Salut Amélie, combien de frères et sœurs as-tu ?
Amélie : J’ai un frère et une sœur. Et toi ?
Guillaume : J'ai deux frères et une sœur. C'est cool d'être dans une grande famille.
Amélie : Oui, c'est bien d'avoir des frères et sœurs, on se soutient mutuellement. Et vous vous entendez bien tous ensemble ?
Guillaume : Oui, on s'entend ✪ plutôt ✪ bien. Il y a des fois ✪ où on se dispute, mais c'est normal, non ?
Amélie : Absolument, c'est normal d'avoir des désaccords de temps en temps ✪. Moi, j'ai de la chance, mes frères et ma sœur sont vraiment cool. Et vous faites quoi ensemble ?
Guillaume : On sort souvent ensemble, on va au cinéma ou on joue à des jeux vidéo. Et vous, vous faites quoi ensemble ?
Amélie : On aime bien aller se promener ✪ ensemble, on aime bien découvrir de nouveaux endroits. On aime bien aussi cuisiner ensemble. C'est sympa de pouvoir partager des activités en famille.

on s'entend, vous vous entendez = s'entendre bien, s'entendre mal = to get along/to not get along.
The most advanced turn of phrase in this dialogue. When French people say "on s'entend bien", they're talking about more than just hearing each other. It's all about getting along like bread and cheese!
"Avec ma sœur, on s'entend super bien, sauf quand elle prend mes vêtements sans demander!" (I get along great with my sister, except when she takes my clothes without asking!)
plutôt ✨ = assez, relativement = rather, quite. This little word packs a punch, adding a subtle nuance to your sentence. Il est plutôt beau, mon nouveau prof de maths!" (My new math teacher is rather handsome!).
After an imperative verb it means "instead" or "why don't you...?" “Essayez plutôt ceci” - Try this instead.
des fois ✨= parfois, quelquefois = sometimes, occasionally = Use this when you want to sound like a true French local. The casual cousin of "parfois". "Des fois, je mange du chocolat au petit déjeuner... Ne le dis à personne!" (Sometimes, I eat chocolate for breakfast... Don't tell anyone!)
de temps en temps ✨🧩= occasionnellement = from time to time. This phrase is your go-to for those not-so-frequent occurrences.
aller se promener = faire une balade = to go for a walk, to stroll = There's nothing more French than a leisurely stroll, especially in a picturesque place! Alt. aller en promenade. “Je vais aller me promener" (I’m going to go for a walk)
*✨ = especially ‘Frenchie’ words/phrases you should try and use more
*🧩 = ‘canned’ expressions or phrases that are best learned as a whole, like puzzle-pieces.

Guillaume : Il est essentiel que nous profitions de ces moments ensemble, car le temps passe si vite. J'espère que nous continuerons à partager des expériences uniques, même si nos intérêts divergent parfois.
Amélie : Bien sûr, il faut que nous appréciions ces instants. Peut-être qu'un jour, il nous sera possible d'organiser un voyage tous ensemble, pour créer des souvenirs inoubliables malgré nos différences.
Translation
G: Hey Amélie, how many brothers and sisters do you have?
A: I have one brother and one sister. And you?
G: I have two brothers and one sister. It's cool to be in a big family.
A: Yes, it's nice to have siblings, we support each other. And do you all get along well together?
G: Yes, we get along rather well. There are times when we argue, but that's normal, right?
A: Absolutely, it's normal to have disagreements from time to time. I'm lucky, my brothers and sister are really cool. What do you guys do together?
G: We often go out together, go to the movies or play video games. And you, what do you do together?
A: We like to go for walks together, we enjoy discovering new places. We also like cooking together. It's nice to be able to share activities as a family.

These dialogues are a very simple tool. Yet this allows them to be versatile and endlessly flexible to you and your learning style.
Here’s one way you could use the dialogue this week:
🥪 Listening sandwich - Listen to the recording x3 times, then read the dialogue and fill in your understanding, then listen again.
This is a great way for beginners to boost their oral comprehension in small helpful doses. Listening first exercises your brain, and listening again after studying allows you solidifying the connections. It’s also encouraging as you can see what you’ve learned !
